Selfish Love

free form, free verse, freeform, love, poetry, Well Being

A relationship extended beyond its expiration date;
each lacked the courage to leave,
to walk away from that which was unfulfilling.
Compromising satisfaction for familiarity,
because of time invested.
Never mind the instability,
the pain inflicted upon one another.

What was thought to be “love,”
was only selfishness.
Then you ask yourself,
did you live a lie?

NYC Summer

NYC SummerInescapable heat
intensified by concrete and steel.
Throngs of people crowd the streets,
dirt envelops all surfaces,
the scent of rancid garbage permeates the air.

Despite it all,
rain is beautiful on a steamy day;
the petrichor feeds my soul,
relief has washed over my body.

In the Present

free form, free verse, Mindfulness, Nature, sunrise

In the present

Slaves to time,
a concept that
quietly dictates our lives.
Getting things done
while waiting for it to pass,
so we can overcome certain feelings,
and look forward to pleasantries.

We anticipate events and outcomes;
self-induced anxiety.
We live as if time really is a linear concept
But what is time really?
How do you define it?

It’s overwhelming,
an omnipresent shadow.
If there’s one thing to know about time,
there’s only the present moment.

Path of Least Resistance

Nature, the world’s organic symphony
Take some time to listen –
Hear the trees sway,
sometimes they whisper in a light breeze
or howl like the lone wolf on a windy night.

Birds remind us that wildlife lives among us,
chirping, calling out to one another in a foreign language
A background soundtrack to your clamoring thoughts.

Rest your tired mind
Give yourself permission to feel free like the birds
To move where the winds direct you
Nature always follows the path of least resistance.

Beach Sunrise

Revitalize

Possibilities;
the sunrise is a blessing.
Glittering rays kiss my face,
the possibilities of a new day;
An awakening

Thankful for this moment,
a peaceful calm only nature can offer
Soothing sounds of waves rolling onto the shore,
Set intentions
Oh, the difference each day makes

A new liberation
as the sun warms all in its wake
Arousing a joy so pure, so stimulating,
Because it comes from within;
be true to yourself and find peace,
calm the internal stirrings

Relocate Baltimore

Relocate

free form, poetry, United States

A new neighborhood
where my new home is
where I live my new life
with my old brain
that stores memories
of a life that can’t be escaped

Evershifting,
which version of myself will I be today?
pulling on pieces,
arranging them to fit the narrative
I wish to create for myself

Relocate,
keeping yourself intact is always the hardest part.

Broken boys, a poem

Broken Boys

free form, free verse, poetry, Well Being

They leave messy trails behind them,
physically and emotionally;
the boys who break hearts

The empty love that wafted
so effortlessly off their lips
and into the mouths of the unassuming;
they whispered reassurances
during moments of weakness,
only to break said promises later
Their actions show that their words carried no weight

They lash out in fits of anger and break things;
to show strength,
to release the ugly energy
They break up homes and come from broken homes

Capable of breaking others, they manipulate;
the smart ones find the right woman
and break her too,
because ‘strong women need to be broken’

Is there hope for the broken boys who’ve lost their way?
Those who carry the stench of darkness
and wear it like a badge of honor –
an undercurrent that runs so deep

You almost feel bad for them
Unlike you,
they have the bravery to act on their brokenness
You hide from yours and bury your inner torments
then you feel sorry for yourself,
because you’re broken too
and that’s what broken people do.

Acquiesce

free form, Nature, poetry, Well Being

Swimming in the depths of emotions
contemplating your thoughts
your sadness and your stress
sometimes the pain engulfs you
become one with it

Tirelessly gliding your body through the waters
speak to the sea
mute the distractions
let the unknown consume you

Feed your soul with the power,
only an unstoppable force such as
water can quell the fiery mind.
